Louisiana Chapter Facts ...

ADVOCACY

• Increase your knowledge of and participation in legislative and advocacy activities at a local level.
• Increase involvement in the legislative arena to positively influence the quality of pediatric practice and the welfare of children in your state.
• Build coalitions with other organizations working towards improving children’s health and well-being.
• Promote the interests of Louisiana pediatricians in the American Academy of Pediatrics.

LEADERSHIP

• Participate in chapter committees in areas of interest.

NETWORKING

• Network with other pediatricians with similar interests.
• Improve chapter membership participation on national AAP affairs.

EDUCATION

• Receive chapter newsletter and other informative mailings.
• Attend local PREP courses and Continuing Medical Education meetings sponsored by the Chapter.
• Prepare yourself for the future role of the pediatrician in the health care system and for the future management of their practices.

What has your Chapter done lately?

• Is a member of the Louisiana State Medical Society's (LSMS) Specialty Society Committee that is being used to promote and improve communications between the LSMS and the organized medical speciality societies in Louisiana on issues of mutual interest.
• Planned its biennial meeting in conjunction with the Louisiana Pediatric Postgraduate Education Council entitled Pediatric Potpourri X.
• Continues to support the Louisiana Coalition for Maternal and Child Health.
• During the fiscal only session of the LA Legislature, the Chapter was instrumental in getting the restoration of the proposed 7% cuts in Medicaid, an additional $18 million funds for physician fees and the expansion of LA CHIP to 200% of poverty.

Annual Chapter Dues:

• Fellow
  (Physicians who are members of the AAP) -- $200.00
• Specialty Fellow
  (AAP members who are certified by boards of other medical specialties) -- $200.00
• Candidate Fellow
  (Limited to 4-year period post-residency training for pediatricians who
  are members of the AAP) -- $50.00
• Post Residency Fellow
  (AAP members who are in fellowship training) -- $50.00
• Resident Fellow
  (Pediatric resident who belongs to the AAP) -- No Charge
• Chapter Affiliate
  (**Any physician whose professional activity is primarily in pediatrics but
  who is not a Fellow of the AAP**) -- $200.00
